Bolts Over a Broken Horizon

Some crazy weather in Durban this afternoon.

There was a tornado, a separate water spout, flooding, a landslide and loads of damage. I didn't witness the tornado but I witnessed incredibly strong winds, blown over trees and lots of debris and damage.

When the storm hit, I was in Durban North. I made my way back home to Umhlanga and went down to the beach to see if I could get any photos from there.

As I got there, the rain had stopped and the darkening sky, from the setting sun, had turned a deep red.

The sky looked as if it was a glowing ember with incredible cloud structures being highlighted with flashes of distant lightning hidden within the burning clouds. Barely a wind blew as I stood on the wet sand. Just moments before; havoc.

As it got darker, I managed to capture a few lightning strikes as the storm headed further out to sea.

I've included 3 photos. I hope that you like them.

The lightning image is a composite image created from some of the images that I captured, which have then been overlayed to create a single image showcasing the strikes that I managed to capture.

My thoughts are with those who have suffered any loss or damage with this severe storm.

It's difficult to understand how something so beautiful can cause so much harm. We always need to respect Mother Nature.

Keep looking for the beauty. It's there...
