The Johannesburg skyline.

I've always loved the Johannesburg skyline.

As a young boy my father used to take me on drives through the Joburg CBD on a stretch of the highway that would run along and underneath another part of the highway. I believe it is the M1 Double Decker highway if memory serves me correctly.

I remember how I would be fascinated with the bustling city and the tall buildings.

I would take note of certain buildings that I could recognise as part of the skyline from far away. I was fascinated by the perspective of how things looked up close as opposed to how they looked from far away. I remember listening to the radio on these trips. "702 Solid Gold Sundays", Gerry Rafferty with Baker Street playing and me thinking of where this Baker Street was in Jozi. The dry highveld heat and explosive afternoon thunderstorms that would be done 5pm.

Egoli, the Zulu name for Johannesburg. The place of gold. It has such a rich history, this place that was built on gold and hard labour. Having grown up in JHB, this place holds a special part in my heart always.

After my recent trip up to JHB, I managed to capture this glimpse of Jozi from the sky, as my plane headed back down to Durban, and I managed to snap a quick photo. It happens to be one of my favourite photos of Joburg that I've been privileged to capture.

We truly have the most incredibly beautiful country... I'm always in awe of it's beauty...

Keep looking for the beauty. It's there...
