What a spectacular thunderstorm!

I was driving back from Shelly Beach on the South Coast, after a boxing tournament, and saw a massive thunderstorm system ahead of me. I wanted to stop on the side of the road, but couldn't find a spot that I felt was safe enough, so I drove into Durban.

After dropping my fighter off at home, I rushed through to Blue Lagoon to see if I could capture a photo. Unfortunately for me, the storm had already mostly moved out to sea. It was, however, one of the most active storms I've seen in years...

I stood above the rocks overlooking the stormy ocean, and took some photos of the lightning out over the ocean. The angry waves crashed into the rocks, sending salty water spraying up into the sky. The cool wind was blowing a few rain drops onto my cheek. The clouds were constantly flashing from the intense lightning. It was simply spectacular, and so incredibly powerful.

Eventually the rain started getting too heavy for me to continue taking photos, but before I left, I managed to capture this image. This photo is a composite image created from some of the images that I captured, which have then been overlayed to create single image, showcasing the strikes that I managed to capture.

South Africa has the most incredible beauty, and her storms are amazing.
