Sunset Lightning over Umhlanga Rocks.

This evening at sunset, a thunderstorm grazed past the north of Durban.
I went down to Bronze Beach to try my luck in capturing a few lightning strikes.

The wind was very strong and forcing the rain down at a sharp angle, so I could only take photos looking towards the south of Umhlanga for fear of getting water on my camera's lens.

The sea was at high tide, and with the wind it seemed to be angry, throwing it's weight onto the shore. The strong wind and rain stinging my back, I watched the sunset over Umhlanga burn bright orange with stormy clouds passing overhead.

I normally share composite images showing all the images that I captured merged into one photo, but I am often asked to share the individual photos that I've captured. I decided to share a single photo of a massive strike that struck probably 50 meters away from where I was; I'm sure my heart stopped for a few seconds.

You'll notice the little white spots; those are rain drops "frozen in time" by the lightning's flash as the camera captured them.

I hope that you like the photo.

South Africa has the most incredible beauty, and her storms are amazing. Keep looking for the beauty. It's there...

I am Proudly South African.
